for this piece i really wanted to go outside my comfort zone with color so i experimented ways i could manipulate it with the human form therefore having it develop in to the coloration of fauvism i also wanted to focus on bringing in African culture specifically African American women and how African women are interpreted specifically in this piece by her hair

i have been inspired by the coloration of fauvism in which The French term “fauvism” refers to “wild beasts.” and are also known as “the artists of pure color.” Fauvism is the first modern movement in which color is the main focal point. the whole point of fauvism is to express feeling with color which is exactly what i wanted to do, it was a matter of finding which color pallet i wanted to use within the fauvist limitations.

culture connections
i wanted the main focal point if this piece to be primarily about the African American women form and their attributes that are identified with African American women, one attribute that i focused on was hair. African American women have many different kinds of hair texture that are unique yet recognizable and i wanted to show case in my piece how powerfull and outstanding the African American women can be just by such simple attributes such as hair.

process
for my process I had too focus on getting the right color palette and I figured put that the dark colors primarily blue and green with hints of red undertone was direction I wanted to go in because of the significance the colors had when putting those colors together they express self power and motivation it emanates hope and new beginnings
reflection
I felt like I did a good job of going outside my comfort zone and expressing color and human forms in a unique way. it was very enjoyable and I consider this piece an success and one of my best pieces. i had no trouble in crating this project because i felt that i already new what direction i wanted to go in what i need to do to fully complete my take on the coloration of fauvism bringing culture to the forefront.

“Girl with pastel green hair and lollipop” Poster from “Monchi” by Nyanza D
For this piece i really wanted to explore my own culture and i wanted to express how i viewed black women and the simplistic beauty that i believe they contain especially since i am of mixed backgrounds which includes African american. I've always felt that black women are under-appreciated in society and in art so i decided to make it the forefront of my three piece pop art series.

medium: illistation art
For this specific piece I underwent a process were I tried to figure out how I wanted her to look which meant deciding what I wanted to take away from my artist inspiration and what in wanted to keep from my inspiration. I decided to keep the structure of the girls face, hands, and hair, but I decided to change the color palette because I wanted to show a contrast of different colors that I felt complimented her well, I also decided to change her hair rom long flowing tresses to just the bins on top her head to give it more of an aesthetic appeal that I felt would appeal to m. Once I got that down I worked within a limited color palette to bring my painting to life.
reflection
I loved creating this first piece of my coco butter series, I felt that I have created one of my best works yet and I feel like this because I connect to this piece the most. Their were some struggle sin creating this piece specifically getting the skin tone right , this was a struggle because I have a habit of over layering paint so I had to constantly fix the coloration of her skin tone but I kept working on it and I finally pulled it together another struggle was making sure I had thick fine and crisp lines that were clean and precise. Creating this piece has taught me that I need to practice patience more and to never get discouraged.
i was strongly inspired by a pop art artist named Nyanza d. who specialized in showcasing every day women of color into pop art. For me she was the perfect inspiration because her meaning behind creating the Monchi series strongly related to why i wanted to create a pop art series which was also going to showcase women of color.

The Dreaming” Poster from “Monchi” by Nyanza D
for my inspiration i was inspired by Nyanzas piece entitled the dreaming. i felt like i connected image a lot i really wanted to make my own version of it and make my own i interpretations. for this process i decided to stick with the structuring of the subject in nyanzas piece but change the whole aesthetic of the piece and incorporate totally different elements in mine, such as skin tone, hair and the overall look of the subject.
process
for this piece i underwent the process of changing her skin tone from a light mocha color to a dark burnt caramel color and i traded in black hair for solid warm purple and i gave her lips a more sultry appearance by mixing the red and the black together then i had to work on out ling the whole subject in black to give it that pop art look that i was going for . it was difficult trying not to over layer my paint like i tend to do, it is a very frustrating habit of mine cause a pop art piece it need to appear 2d instead of 3d because simplified the detail is in pop art so it was hard for me to do plus try to eliminate depth from her skin tone like i tend to do.
reflection
overall i felt like creating this piece was a learning experience fro me in focusing on adapting to my pieces needs and learning to step out if my comfort zone and break certain habits i have when painting and it has also taught to stop overthinking things and letting me know when i need to walk away from things and h when i need to keep going. I f i had to do this pieced over again i probably would because i feel like there are aspects of it that i could of done better on to make the out come even better but overall i felt like this piece was a success . I feel like every time i pant the better i become and the better the outcome because i know what tot do and what not to do.

Deborah” Poster from “Monchi” by Nyanza D
for my artist inspiration I was inspired by Nyanza D's '"Deborah" print located in her monchi series. I felt that her original piece was the one I was most attracted to and I wanted to recreate it in my own way. This piece conveys emotion and feeling which is exactly why it inspired me to crate my own painting. for this piece I stuck with most of the facial placements but completely changed everything else from color to face structure.
process
for my process I focused on comp[lately changing the facial structure of my piece to differentiate my piece form nyanza's. I focused on the eyes first and whether or not I wanted to leave them open or closed to convey a sense of emotion and feeling and I decided to leave them open because I felt that it added a sense of mystery and secrecy in my piece. Next I focused on the exaggeration of her ;lips and the shape and feel of them because they are a main focal point in my piece overall and they communicate sensuality and emotion which was very important to me. I then focused on the color of my piece which were wired down to four basic colors that I eventually mixed together to create midtowns and other hues, which was the finishing touch on my piece.
reflection
I loved creating this piece because it was the most relatable to me in a sense this was the piece that contributed to my pop art series and I feel like its one of my best pieces because I put so much work and passion into it. I applied my skills and also what I learned from past mistakes to create this piece so if eel like this piece is a success for me. It was hard trying to figure out how I wanted my subject to look like but in the end I really like how it turned out I feel like its the cleanest and [precise work I have done and am very proud of myself and how far I've come .

FRida khalo- self portrait with thorn
NECKLACE and hummingbird
my inspiration for my digital collage was frida khalo's self portrait with thorn necklace, hummingbird, and uni-brow created in 1940. i was inspired by her piece because her piece communicates a sense of self identity and self awareness, which have been my main themes for previous artworks. i input my own cultural background into my piece as frida did in her own piece. I was also inspired by her surrealism styling because it communicates symbolism in a powerful way it makes the piece open to interpretaion
process
for my process i already had a solid theme to go off of which was elf identity and self awareness and then there was the implementing of my cultural background but i struggled with weather or not i wanted to put myself in the collage as the main subject but id decided to actually put a more evasive and visually stronger subject for my digital collage. i felt that color and saturation were of huge importance to me piece because they make the collage stand out overall i added a group of out reaching hands to symbolize hunger society has to discredit and belittle women of color in today's generation the crown on top of her head symbolizes her inner strength and self identity that is always evident to her and others.
reflection
I felt that this has been one of my favorite and best pieces i have done. I loved working digitally because its always something that has been interesting to me and fun to do, even though i haven't been able to digitally manipulate a lot this because i have been more focused on the panting aspects. I think i did a good job on this piece because i had a good vision of what i wanted to create so i didn't really experience and hardships or struggles creating this piece.
